COVID-19 Emergency Response Plan

Purpose

Clean Water Works is committed to protecting its workers from exposure to COVID-19 and illnesses that they may contract while performing their work duties.

Implementing a variety of control measures is essential to achieving this goal. We commit to being diligent in our efforts to select the most effective control methods available and to ensure that best practices are followed in our workplace.

Employer Responsibilities

  • Identify and assess work processes that could lead to worker exposure (Higher risk areas and activities include the punch clock, vending machines, gathering work orders, tail gate meetings, camera & cutter trucks, plumbers entering public places)
  • Encourage and enforce social distancing (2 meters), hand washing (minimum 20 seconds), covering face when coughing or sneezing.
  • Delineate work areas where possible with “safe distancing” markers
  • Ensure materials required for this plan are available (such as PPE & disinfectants)
  • Stay updated on new developments regarding infectious diseases and pass this information on to workers
  • Develop and use a mass texting service and social media to communicate daily safety updates and government initiatives
  • Recommend, organize and subsidize annual flu, tetanus and Hepatitus vaccinations
  • Continue to review of the effectiveness of this plan and include the JHSC
  • Ensure that the necessary equipment and PPE is being used as required
  • Ensure workers and supervisors are adequately educated and trained
  • Maintain records of training and meetings/safety talks regarding COVID-19
  • Investigate all exposure incidents, including near misses
  • Develop questionnaire to prescreen employees prior to work as well as our clients, subcontractors, suppliers, concerned residents (re odour complaint investigations) and consultants who may visit our site
  • Coordinate work with other employers to ensure that the risks of COVID-19 are mitigated
  • Implement work from home strategy for key positions (payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, dispatch)
  • Distribute work orders electronically as much as possible
  • Develop business continuity plans

Supervisor Responsibilities

  • Ensure workers have received adequate instruction on the hazards associated with exposure, as well as signs & symptoms of exposure.
  • Ensure proper hand wash stations are available and stocked
  • Select and implement appropriate controls, including PPE. Ensure workers using masks are fit-tested and the masks are disinfected properly.
  • Ensure workers don and doff their PPE as required and follow decontamination procedures.
  • Enforce social distancing whenever possible
  • Enforce regular disinfection of common surfaces
  • Direct work in a manner that will minimize and control exposure of the workers to the disease
  • Work with other employers to ensure a safe as possible work environment
  • Ensure subcontractors and consultants are following safe work procedures
  • Use the CWW questionnaire to prescreen homeowners or other stakeholders who require our workers to enter their premises about the health of the occupants to assess the exposure risk to our employees
  • Ensure all relevant parties are completing the CWW COVID Questionnaire before entering the site

Worker Responsibilities

  • Attend educational sessions and read daily safety messages provided by CWW
  • Use assigned PPE in a safe and effective manner
  • Ensure you are diligent in maintaining hygiene, including washing your hands regularly for at least 20 seconds
  • Maintain social distancing as much as possible (6 feet or 2 meters between you and your nearest co-worker)
  • Follow established work and decontamination procedures as directed by your supervisor
  • Report unsafe acts and conditions (including a sick co-worker or other person) to your supervisor
  • Be familiar with how to report exposure incidents
  • Report flu-like symptoms immediately to your supervisor
  • Complete the CWW COVID Questionnaire at the beginning of each shift
