Drain Inspection & Locating

Over the years the evolution and adaptability of electronic and digital camera technology has made the identification and evaluation of compromised plumbing and drain pipes and infrastructures a precision-driven and exacting science. CWW’s service van units are all equipped with snake CCTV video cameras and monitors complete with DVD recorders. CWW plumbing technicians are able to insert a small video camera deep into the pipe, record their findings, and provide the appropriate advice and recommendations for the right rehabilitation technique on-site.

CWW push snake cameras are also built to withstand rough environments; yet flexible enough to navigate through any series of sharps turns and bends, and successfully penetrate and enter small diameter pipes. Typically, CCTV analyses with push snake cameras are deployed in drains of up to 8” in diameter. CWW strategically deploys crawling cameras from its custom camera trucks for larger pipe diameters. CWW will also deploy additional types of locating devices that can pinpoint the exact location of drain pipes beneath flooring.

Dye Testing Investigation

CWW uses dye testing to locate the source of a connection to a drain or sewer. A camera is pushed into the main drain or clean-out, and a dye tablet flushed into the system from a toilet. The brightly coloured dye seeps into the drain and is visually captured by the push camera to confirm the location of the connection. We also use dye testing to determine the existence of a separate storm and sanitary sewer exit.

Sewer Locating

CWW’s trained staff use Sonde devices to determine pipe locations and conditions. As a quality standard, CWW employees mark the ground with stakes, flags and paint, and prepare a detailed sketch of the location of the sewer should it be scheduled for repair at a later date, or if the marking devices placed by the CWW crew become hidden by snow. The approximate depth of the sewer can be determined with the locating device. We can use Sonde devices to locate sewers and drains indoors and outdoors.
