CIPP Lateral Sewer Lining

Maintaining a Critical Connection

A lateral sewer is the sewer drain that extends from a home or building, and which typically connects to a city sewer beneath a street. In recent years, CWW’s lateral sewer rehabilitation specialists have installed cured-in-place-pipe (CIPP) liners in thousands of homes and other buildings in the commercial and industrial sectors.

The most common lateral sewer defects that we encounter are caused by the infiltration of roots, which can rapidly increase in size and form root balls that eventually block the sewer and lead to unpleasant odours, backups and related damages.

We recommend CIPP liners for the rehabilitation of pipe that display defects such as roots, cracks, fractures, holes, open or offset joints, water infiltration or wear and deterioration from years of use.

Examination and Diagnosis
CWW professionals typically complete this lateral lining process within six hours of on-site time. Building drains and lateral sewers are typically in the range of 3” (75mm) to 6” (150mm) in diameter. Initially, the pipe is inspected with a specialized mini video-camera and cleaned in preparation for lining. Next, we use a high-pressure jet, rotating blades or a flusher to blast away roots and other debris. Once the pipe is clean, the pipe diameter and length are examined and confirmed. Our lateral liners are designed to seamlessly fit to the exact configuration of the existing pipe with enough flexibility to adapt to most joints, bends and elbow types. Our professionals deploy an additional quality check by verifying the potential presence of a hidden weeping tile connection. If we see that a weeping tile connection is present, we can deploy a mini robotic cutter to reopen the connection after the liner is installed.

Drain Lining
Our lateral lining technology is also used to repair plumbing drains located in areas that can be difficult to reach in homes and buildings.  Plumbing systems generally connect and run under a concrete slab, often in the basement. Our drain liners are a great solution to minimize the needs to cut and remove floors and walls in order to access and replace a problematic drain section.  A drain lining technician equipped with a mini video-camera can identify pipe issues and determine possible access for a liner installation. Our mini robotic cutter is used as necessary to reopen incoming plumbing connections in the repaired section.

Benefits of CIPP Lateral Sewer Lining

  • Cost-effective
When the rehabilitation of a pipe is required in proximity to extensive landscaping, driveways, trees and shrubbery, CIPP is the preferred choice.
  • Less Intrusive
Lateral sewer liners are generally installed from an existing cleanout inside the building, eliminating the risk for messy excavations.
  • Enhanced Performance
CIPP structural liners restore the structural integrity of the existing deteriorated pipe and will also improve the overall hydraulic characteristics based on the smooth finish of the CIPP liner
